2015 Override Election - Factual Information

The Palo Verde School District Governing Board authorized placing a Maintenance and Operations Override on the November 3, 2015 ballot.  An effort to gain approval for the continuation of the override failed in the November 4, 2014 election, resulting in an $357,000 reduction of funding over the following 3 years, $119,000 per year. Override ballots had been approved by voters since 1991 to support smaller class sizes, various programs and full-day kindergarten. Because the override failed, budget reductions were required for 2015-16 and additional similar cuts will follow in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Override funding will be utilized for the classroom to:

  • Maintain instructional programs
  • Continue special programs such as full-day kindergarten, PE, reading and instructional technology.
  • Continue funding of current teacher and classroom aide staffing levels to maintain manageable class sizes.
  • Maintain or increase salaries to attract and retain staff members.
  • Maintain or expand the use of technology in the classroom by providing updated training and access to various online materials and programs.
